No Show

Well technically we went to the show, but we didn't show. Clear as mud, eh! Despite never making it into the competition ring, Megan had a great weekend and handled herself with much aplomb.

Friday was a little interesting. The first trip down to the ring was a bit hairy with Megan's tail up over her back and snorting loudly at all the commotion. We decided a bit of lunging was in order, but no sooner did we get up to the lunge area that all the stuffing went out of her and she was back to normal. She warmed up in pretty heavy traffic --lots of kids on ponies -- and never lost her cool. Then it was into the ring with nicely decorated fences. She jumped them all without a second look and also got her changes! She might be a star! ;-)

We decided not to show on Saturday, but did get her out to warm up again and she never put a foot wrong. We finished with an extremely nice, quiet jump over a good sized oxer and gave her lots of pats and carrots!

The plan was to do the pre-greens, 2 foot 3 inches, on Sunday. Just as I got her down to the ring all tacked up, the heavens opened with some much needed, but ill-timed rain. Between all the horses crowded in around her as everyone tried to get out of the downpour and the sound of the rain on the roof of the indoor arena, Megan lost her cool. By the time Ricky got on her to warm her up, it was clear her mind was elsewhere. He decided that she had been so good all weekend that it wouldn't serve any purpose to push the issue. I agreed wholeheartedly. We're trying to keep all of this fun and exciting for her -- no need to rush. It's exciting enough to see how well she took to life as a show horse! Next time, we'll actually make it into the ring...

Megan did get to entertain her fans... and eat a lot, so it was a win, win for her!
